Hi All

Firstly apologies I have seen this question come up before but can't find it again!

Anyway I have a Scootopia fast flow fuel tap that works fine apart from when it goes over to reserve the amount of fuel left in the standard tank is very small. Is there a way of fettling the tap to achieve more reserve range ?

Yes, although I generally sing the praises about Scootopia's products I have to say their fast flow tap with the positive clicks are absolute shite.

The one I had was very poorly made and the threads soon stripped resulting in fuel leaking everywhere, I had two more that I was tasked with fitting for a friend, both had duff threads and couldn't be tightened and ended up in the bin.

The reserve position holds exactly 1/3 of a litre on a standard tank, if you pull the plastic gauze off you will see that the reserve tube is fairly short but you can add a short piece of plastic pipe to that to give you a longer reserve, personally I wouldent bother just ditch it and get an omg fast flow.

Quite a few Forum users have expressed concern about the Scootopia taps, so I stripped my own down to the component parts to see what it was all about.

TBH, perhaps there are differing batches, but mine seems to be alight (Jack!) though I’d relegated it to the spare that I carry in the toolbox prior to taking it apart.

To answer your question & in agreement with Scooterdude, the amount of reserve can be changed by substituting a different length of tube.

However, in fairness to all tap manufacturers, a lot of the double threaded union nuts are made of a soft metal, including the ported OMG currently fitted to my bike.

Because the union nuts are, in general, soft & all are a very fine thread, it is all too easy to strip or cross thread them, but they can be fitted & will function perfectly if a lot of care is taken.

Perhaps other Forum users know different, but I haven’t seen a steel union nut on an aftermarket tap for decades & the only steel (or brass) ones I have are from OEM fitted machines.

I got mine from Cambridge Lambretta, no issues at all. Not expensive.

Thanks for all the replies.

Must admit I like the way the tap clicks - I know its daft but it feels positive, however its not much kop if it doesn't work properly ! I agree that the threads are not great but I don't think any others are much better if I can find some tube that is petrol resistant ill have a go at adapting it, if not ill get an OMG.

Windscreen washer tubing appears to be fuel resistant (makes sense as it is used under the bonnet) & available in a few sizes. I bought some to get a petrol hedge trimmer & chainsaw working properly.

Wilcos & such stores sell it cheaply.

I have used a scootopia tap and find it very good apart from the reserve issue.In my case I've used the straw out of the fast flow tap that I removed to fit the scootopia tap,I just removed the filter and metal tube and replaced it with the fast flow straw.I've had no trouble with the thread on the body.

It seems daft that a seemingly otherwise great product should be made useless (without modifications) for want of a slightly longer tube and filter.
I binned mine due to the pointless reserve. What use is 3miles to find a petrol station?

I think they must have designed it to be used with a long range tank in which case the short reserve tube would work out ok.
