Mikuni or Dellorto

What is the best carb between the 2? Im guessing the dellorto is easier to set up but the mikuni is the better one? Im looking at an alternative to my vhsh 34 delly on my sprinter.Is there a comparison list somewhere for the jet sizes etc?

I wonder why you restrict your choice to those two manufacturers.

Of the two, from what I understand, Mikuni are no more difficult to set up than Dell’Orto. Admittedly, there is a larger knowledge base because most Lambretta modifications involve the Dell’Orto.

However, just because I have them myself ranging from SH1/18’s up to VHBC Ø39 mm’s doesn’t mean that I consider them the best.

I’ve also got a Keihin PWK Ø39 mm that is by no means their latest product, but you have to ask yourself why Keihin are OEM equipment on a lot of the more powerful two strokes. BTW you won’t see them on Rotax karts due to the rules as I understand the situation.

They are both suitable brands but so are a few others.
Generally, the Mikuni is easier to set up IMO cos they use fixed taper needles but it could be argued that there are extra refinements with Delly carbs.

The mikuni and keihin seem very similar,and Im guessing the koso ones are copies? Looking at the MB site they sell a mikuni ready to go but its over £300. What mods if any are needed to use mikunis/keihin/koso carbs on a Lambretta with reed valve?

I've been using Koso's for about 12 years.
Just fitted a new Koso to my newly fitted reed valve. Easy on and jets available. Easy to disassemble and reassemble.
Had one I fitted after rebuild that always showed a grey plug at WOT even with 170 main. Couldn't stall it on choke. Fitted another identical with same jetting and had to bring them all down because too rich. Same carbs !!
Just back after 400 + miles round trip to Shipston.
Have 3 needles JJH, JJJ, JJK. Bit of a palava with them all in mid range but I prefer it rich for a "roll back" to a safe position. Dellorto jets "fit" but very slightly different thread pitch so will/may spoil atomiser.
