Excuse my ignorance, but why do you need a battery powered strobe, doesn't it gets it power from the HT lead ?

No... It gets its trigger signal to flash the strobe from the HT lead.
To power regular strobes, there are 2 wires, usually with crocadile clips to connect to the vehicles battery and these can be used in the usual way with Lammies that have a battery fitted.
For non battery vehicles, the power source for the strobe needs to be internal (dry cells or rechargable Nicads/ lithiums). This is only for convenience, so all you need to do is switch it on and connect the trigger lead around the HT wire.
I just use a regular strobe and connect it to a gell cell battery (The type you find in alarm panels which is easily recharged with a conventional car battery charger)

Torbay Lambretta have them in stock.

I use a similar one I bought from USA while visiting, excellent without having to faff with an additional battery.
