Casa 185 Jetting

I have a casa 185 kit with a scootopia 22mm carb, casa 42mm S2 exhaust breathing through a ramair filter. Has anyone had to go up to a 55 pilot jet? Currently has a 50 jet in but trying to set up carb and the air screw doesn't make much difference apart from cutting the engine when wound all the way in. Plug colour at 1/4 to 1/2 throttle under load is a bit pale.

All searches seem to have a 50 or even a 45 pilot

To answer my own question the 55 pilot gave a better plug colour under load. Now however just beyond half throttle, when warm and under load, the engine dies as if out of fuel. If I pull the clutch in and give it full throttle it will pick up momentarily. Bike starts first kick straight away and I can limp it back home keeping under half throttle. Didn't have time to check the plug at point it cut out as I was on the way to work and had to get back and swap bikes.

I will come down on the main jet and see how I get on as I guess it is running far too rich beyond half throttle.

I have a Casa 185 top end with a Scootopia SH2/22 and a Scootopia Ancillotti type clubman.It runs through an undrilled air box with the baffle removed and a standard air filter element.The carb runs a 48 pilot jet and a 132 main jet,the plug colour is chocolate brown and the scooter runs really well.

Cheers HxP. I've had another think through and I've changed the atomiser as my thoughts turned to the fact if it cuts out at half throttle the atomiser might be blocked. Hopefully get it out tomorrow and see how I get on.

I am still fighting this. Six hundred nightmare miles to date (good job I've got a second scooter that's reasonably reliable) Three 22mm carbs (original Delly stripped threads on choke and two scootopia both with blocked idle circuits), two CDIs (one was retarding the ignition by 90 deg), One HT cap, one sparkplug and two inlet manifolds to date. Did manage two hundred miles between issues on the old carb! Also changed stator and flywheel somewhere along the line!

Is anyone running a Casa 185 successfully with a SH1/20 carb and can give me ball park jetting? Going back to a drilled air box and it has a 42mm S1/2 casa exhaust.

Where did you get the 55 pilot? Only seen them in 45, 48 and 50.

Not sure where I got it from Rossclark. The fiasco getting this engine running with any reliability has been seven months which is a bit too long for my memory!

Just checked and it is likely I got it from CamLam as they are one of my localish shops.

Maybe a bit of a curveball, but... timing?

Mine is pretty much as HXPaul's but 125 main 45 pilot. 200cc slide.

Recently had poor plug colour, along with running terribly, cured by advancing (controversial!) timing a tad. As I'm no expert I read up on the evils of too retarded ignition .

Cheers Nigel. Timing is okay and it ran great with the old Delly until the choke threads stripped. Gave up on the 22mm scootopia carbs and have just changed it all over to a SH1/20 and a drilled Spanish air box. Will try get it running tomorrow

Just changed my carb from a Scootopia SH2/22 to a PHBL 25.With the Scootopia carb it felt like it was going on reserve,this could happen after 1mile or 100 miles.I thought at first it was the fuel tank cap breather,I've since found out that the seam on the float in the Scootopia carb was catching on the cover of the float chamber and preventing the needle valve from letting fuel through momentarilly cutting the fuel supply.I found the problem quite by accident,I was checking the inside of the float chamber and saw reference marks where the float was catching.

How does it run with the 25mm, Paul? Much/any gain in performance?

Not much gain in performance,but its very reliable,starts first kick and most of all,no intermittent stopping of the engine.I've done over 1000 miles since I changed the carb,so my suspicion about the float on the Scootopia carb looks to have been right.

Just checked the 22mm carb I removed and that seem to have the same issue. Will stick with the 20mm one for now.

Hi Tony.I dont know what the jets are,I know that the atomiser is an AQ268 and the needle is a D29 on the second clip from the top.I bought the carb as a kit from Readspeed and asked them to jet it for the Casa185.The carb is a bit rich at just over tick over but past this point it runs great.

Recently did this upgrade for someone, best thing we ever did, great little kit that's turned an already reliable scooter into an even better one.

have been reading this with interest. I've also got casa 185 but running a scoot rs expansion did you find out what main jet to use ??

Hi.I've had the PHBL in bits and I've got a 47 pilot jet and a 98 main jet,not forgeting mine runs through the airbox using a standard filter.If you use a remote filter you need to up the jetting.I also use a clubman exhaust.
