I have s3 li125, looking to put 175 cylinder kit.
Should I go for an iron kit or all alloy?

Mainly town riding, looking to keep below £250

£250 is going to limit you to an iron cylinder with a reprofiled head and so is the standard crank really.
Spend on a decent piston though. There are some crap 175 conversion pistons around (which is nothing new)
Others may be able to advise on reputable brands.
Hopefully, you may have enough change to upgrade the carb to take advantage of the extra potential.

The AF Alloy kit @ £195 is meant to be really good.

A decent exhaust will bite into the £250 and an exhaust will probably be the biggest factor in improving the performance. For £250 I'd be inclined to take it to a tuner and get the barrel "tweeked".

Have a 42 mm clubman exhaust and sh2/22 carb plus electronic ign im thinking alloy polished and ported kit . Am I going the right way?

If you really only envisage urban riding, any of the cheap kits on ebay would do the job, this one looks okay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ukscooters-LA ... Wouldn't recommend for thrashing up the motorway though

if your buying the barrel from a reputable dealer then you should be fine, as long as they check them some of the ones on ebay are rubbish more often than not, exhaust ports way to big and inlet ports with threads made from cheese, plus lots of other defects, i think a few others will echo my thoughts, you might get lucky and get a second hand kit, i got one earlier this year on ebay, it was a cast iron suzuki 190 tuned by mr horne, very tidy, only needed a new piston and honing, goes very well.

buzzsolomoto was selling a 180 kit a while back which consisted of a bored out gp 150 barrel piston and head. i put one on a mates Li about a year ago and fitted a a 42 mil box pipe and up jetted his jetex. he has been very happy with it.may be worth speaking to buzz about this.
