DL/GP panel stripes

I applied 55mm wide stripes behind the plastic panel grill, but when I went to apply the short stripe in front of the grill, it looked wrong. I dug-out a 60mm (wide) panel stripe that I had in stock, and used this forward of the grill. It looks correct.

So I am wondering if the panel stripes should be 60mm wide ahead of the grill, and 55mm behind the grill.

Has anyone got original panel with an original stripe that can measure the width of the panel stripe both ahead and behind the panel grill?

Martin the GP stripes I have they are 60mm in front and behind the grill. I dug out the old motorcycle trader leaflet but unfortunately that doesn't give the panel strip width.

Well, you live and learn. I have 2 original GP panels in the loft off different scooters.

Both are 62mm ahead of the grill, 57mm behind it.

I'd go with Storkfoots measurements as they haven't been put on the panel.

I checked my '69 GP again and measured 56mm and 61mm. Until I just measured it, I didn't realise the stripe was wider the other side of the grill.

It appears to be an optical illusion. The wider stripe at the front seems to work with the narrower rear stripe.

Obvoiusly, this is not the first time this has become known, but it is good to feel that we have rediscovered these facts.
