Squashed, cloverleaf or round?

I know it's an old topic but what purpose do the various exhaust tailpipes serve? Back pressure? Rigidity?

No idea but I suspect...not a lot By 1970, the only standard exhaust available from Lambretta was the GP one

I suspect you may be right and, yes, even late 70s I seem to recall the GP type, as in photo, were all you could get.

But, surely there must be a proper reason??

Yes, I can see that. Maybe, just appearing more modern? Maybe, the exhaust note although I somehow doubt it.

The reason is probably that it's easier to squash a tailpipe during production than it is to crimp it into a cloverleaf. Basically they were making everything cheaper on the GP model.

Purely looks I would think.

Looks often counted for more than performance on a Lambretta back then, I would think.

Thanks for the replies. I am going to use this exhaust, it’s a Casa one, on a Suzuki 190 conversion. I was just curious.

In reality, that shall be next Winter as this Winter’s task is a Vega engine build
