Chrome ring SX200 ?

You know what would clear this up is a picture of the steering lock. The other alternative I can think of is that somebody has fitted a Special headset at some point and used the ring to take up the gap.

I cant think of a reason why a picture of the steering lock would make a difference,as far as I know the picture of a non-chrome ring steering lock is the same as a chrome ring.

There's a difference that would be apparent if you could see a photo. The non chrome ring headset has a deeper collar beneath the lock to accomodate the lack of a chrome ring. Whereas the Special, chrome ring one, has a gap that is a matter of millimeters.

I can see there is a danger of us going around in circles here Paul. I don't mean the actual lock. It's only important in relation to the depth of the collar.

Think what people are trying to say is that a non chrome ring frame will have an 'L' shaped piece of metal for a steering lock
on the back of the tube, like on a GP frame tube and the chrome ring frame uses the chrome ring as the steering lock and
will have a raised piece of metal at the front of the tube where the grub screw goes through to secure the chrome ring.
I can't quite make out the IGM number either, but it doesn't look like it's 4355 which it should be if it's a proper frame.

Have enlarged the picture on my PC, still cant make out the IGM properly but it does start 43, going to strip paint from the IGM no. to check, as said before the frame ring looks wrong as it has sharp angles where the are normally round. it is a mystery though, this scoot has been standing in this state for over 10 years, my guess is that someone in the dim and distant past fitted the frame ring. to be able to use a frame ring headset, its not mine but a mate who asked for my opinion.

Still couldn't get original links to work. New ones worked thanks for that. I found this picture which may help. It was on Scootering web site. Personally I can't really tell from photo. Why such a difference between the two photos, one colour easy to see and the other in black and white and a bit tricky to see. This link may help further

Well, I don't think there is anything wrong with the number. That's for sure. The edge of the stamp is visible and as it should be.

the wrong frame or a repaired frame with a chrome ring steering tube should have a piece of steel welded to it to allow the chrome ring locking screw, an m8 grub screw which tightens in the chrome ring under the horncast. It has no locking screw or bracing piece it could be a standard sx frame i, it should have an angled bracket welded or the remains of at the back the column for the steering lock to work on without a chrome ring. The later steering top bush are bigger to fit the same diameter tube with out a chrome ring. If it says sx200 no igm as spanish little numbers compared to that example it would be a jet frame which are still valuable, early jets till about 1975 had a chrome ring and possibly no battery tray as ac only.

I've owned 2 Jet 200s - one 1974 registered, the other 1975. Neither had a chrome ring

upto 1973 all jet 200’s had the chrome ring still fitted.

From my experience whether it's right or not, all the SX200 frames I've seen the 200 is butted up to the star or asterisk like the picture shown of someone elses frame. The one I had did which started 846.
