Spanish S2 rear hub

Postby John Deeley » Tue Feb 13, 2018 8:46 am

Is this slot and tab washer rear hub an Eibar thing or just a clever bodge by a previous owner? (If anyone can get the pics on here properly please feel free).

My spanish S2 didn't have anything like that nor any other ive ever seen, I call bodge.

I cant even figure out exactly what its supposed to be doing and i assume you already removed the cone and thats why its not in the pictures?

Looks like something you would find on a Vespa back hub.

Never seen anything like it before either, but it looks a proper job, and the tab washer isn't home made, so I thought I'd ask, you never know.

The cone, hub etc. was fitted as per normal, the inner tab was in the slot facing inward, hub nut tightened then the outer tab bent against the nut to secure it.

The slot isn't just bodged in, its been properly milled, which would necessitate stripping the layshaft from the engine,
and the hub was rock solid after all these years, so it's done its job.

He must have been a real tight-arsed fecker to go to all that trouble rather than buy a new locking ring!

The taper lock is whats important. If its right, then that nut should never come loose.
The locking plate is really just a 'piece of mind' add on.
