Series 1/2 rear tyre fitting

Postby al pushpak » Sun Mar 25, 2018 5:22 pm

Hi , got out on my series 1 today because of the rare occurrence of nice weather :D & coming home I ended up with a flat tyre on the back, luckily I carry a spare & mini pump but I always have to let some air out of the spare in order to fit it because of panel handle bracket on the frame  just wondered what other people do in this situation as no end of twisting & turning would make the spare wheel go on til I let some air out! thanks for any info ;)

What rear shock do you have? The slightly shorter series 3 type will give you this problem. With a series 2 type you should be able to wiggle the wheel out. The difference being the angle of the engine unit. Otherwise remove the rear shock, get a willing helper to lift the rear end whilst you take off the wheel.

Chop the pointed end of the inner prong on the bracket by about 10 to 15mm. Gives you a bit of extra wriggle room.

Thanks for the replies, yes I think I've got the later type series 3 shock on so that would make sense to why I struggled  will either have to start carrying a shocker nut spanner or shave a bit off the bracket ;) cheers
