Guys, I may be wrong, but I thought I read on here somewhere that it was not advisable to use stainless steel for long range tanks. Is this correct? If so why? Or did I just imagine it? It's the age....

No your right, i was advised by Ben at RAYSPEED not to use them as the polishing compound they use on the outside of the tank gets on the inside? Polishing without the lid on maybe?? And this is something that they have had great problems with over the years.

Just wash them out, i've fitted a few with no issues after a thorough wash
I've recently fitted a brand new MS one that needed a thorough clean with nuts and bolts and parafin. The instructions even stated to test it for leaks with fuel before painting - its not much to expect a petrol tank to hold fuel??!!!

Good practice to wash out any new tank before fitting it anyway. Personally.... I'm not convinced by that "polish in the tank" story.
There is a genuine concern regarding these SS tanks though.
Stainless welded joints don't take vibrations too well and as a result, tanks are prone to splitting along the TiG welded seams. 13 litres of fuel leaking directly over a hot engine?
