Boggy Starter

Guys -- got a standard 200 lump, 42mm clubman & 26mm jetex, just rebuilt top end, carb been stripped cleaned etc, weird one this, when it starts it is very, very boggy, I have to have choke off, throttle wide open and I keep kicking until it bites, when it does bite it picks up very, very slowly and gradually the beats pick up fine & no problem. The jetting is 26mm jetex carb (reemed), GP 200 Slide, 5899-2 atomiser, 123 main jet, 50 pilot & 50 choke.

Am I thinking that lowering the pilot jet to a 48 etc may work? Any ideas guys?

Try it with the air filter off and see what it does

Sounds like choke plunger stuck.

Stick a new plug in, never know ?

Try first with the air filter hose off. If that improves it try drop the main a little - say 118 and try with the filter on and see if it's any better.

Thanks Guys -- a lot to be getting on with -- I'll start with the choke plunger I think, maybe just flooding the carb straight off the bat, when it does fire it's like it ticks over in slow motion gradually building up to the correct tick over -- once it's up to normal tick over goes great.

Im just in the middle of one displaying exactly the same symptoms. Swapped carb over this morning for an identical one i have hear to rule that out.....exactly the same. Im thinking stator now, let you know later.

Yes it turned out to be the stator so all fixed now.

mmm - The plot thickens, mine has done this with 2 x stators with the new BGM one only 12 months -- I thought for a second that could have been it but looked back through the timeline. Originally I thought it was just worn rings but I've renewed them also -- weird.

Have you checked your pick up alignment?

No mate, not checked that, been thinking through this issue & it was prevalent when trying to hot start after some hefty rally miles, I thought it was the rings so changed them, it's happened over the lifetime of 2 x stators and now it's started when cold starting -- I'll get my head into this & feedback
