Quick Release fastners

Postby rossclark » Sat Jun 02, 2018 9:14 pm

Anyone had any luck / experience with these for attaching, say, a mudguard?

I've had the front off and on my Lince a few times recently and it's a bit of a pain with the tool box and all the little screws. It would be so much easier and quicker with something like DZUS fasteners, but I'm not that clear on how to get the right ones, it seems the length is critical to the function, or how the 'nut' part would attach to the mudguard.

Any thoughts?

I like quick release everything, but I wouldn’t do it for the mudguard. You need a really firm fixing to squash all the rubbers into place, and I don’t think you would get that with a QA fastener.

Why do you have to remove your mudguard so often? Mine only comes off for a respray.

The DZUS fasteners are a revelation on the runner boards. Not sure how well they would work on the mudguard though.
I would be more inclined to use something like a wing nut or some thing a long those lines. Quarter turn fasters only have a small window of operation and you may have to use several different lengths to make work with the varying angles of the legshields and mudguard.

Maybe these could also do the job?

Anyway, I'd have a browse of the website in general.

I've ordered a sizing kit to see what's possible.

The problem with the Lince is that the horncast is only attached by the two screws at the front and the nuts and bolts underneath which attach it to the mudguard - these are impossible to undo without removing the whole front end so you can't take the horncast off by itself to do wiring, cables etc.

I tried chimney nuts on the horn cast - mudguard connection but these are almost as hard to undo from underneath and aren't conducive to a good fit between the horncast and the legshield.
