Do you mean Brake light or Back light? the brake light should be lit unless the brake pedal is depressed obviously. Is this happening with the lights on? Do you have a volt meter?

Its the brake light that blows.Swapped wires round and had no rear light so the wires were ok.Yes I have a multimeter but dont know how to use it in this instance, or many others Lol

Swapped regulator. It doesnt blow the brake light now but both brake and rear light on. Any ideas?

Hi Jonno,
If both brake and rear light are on it would suggest that the brake light is getting its voltage from the rear light circuit.I would disconnect the black wire that feeds the rear light if the brake light is now out it would suggest a short probably in the light unit.I have had also had shorts inside the brake light switch with 12volt going to ground via metal brake light plunger and blowing a fuse .
Change the bulb.
Your engine should also have an earth wire from engine to frame.
Your regulator dumps excess voltage to ground so a clean earth is essential.Always ride with headlamp on for safety and it reduces the "work" the regulator has to do.
good luck

Are you absolutely sure you haven't wired the black wire from the loom into the earth wire from the bulb holder?
