Garmin Forerunner mounting options

After years of a geiger counter speedo, I'm going to embrace modern technology and get a forerunner.Basically something I take off when using the scoot for day to day stuff, but on longer distances it would be nice to know what speed I'm actually doing.My speedo is Ok up to about 50MPH after that it goes wild.For example I overtook a scooter going down to Exmouth on the M5 over this last weekend, saw them at the services later,was asked how fast were you going? My reply" I have no idea anything between 40 and 70".
So how do people mount them ? I don't have a legshield tool box so would need to be handle bar mounted or can you just use the strap and secure it to the headset or maybe onto the spare wheel? Any help or pointers appreciated

I have a Forerunner 201, and I have just strapped it around the headset, by the light switch. If you put it any lower, it will be a pain to read.

The Velcro strap making fitting an removal a doddle.

Mind you, have you thought about an SIP speedo? They are a good bit of kit and give you a lot more info than just speed.

Most have them strapped to the bars to the left of the switch housing. They aren't advertised as waterproof though, just water resistant, I mounted mine on a bracket mounted inside my Coast to Coast screen and wired into the DC on the scoot and it was fine for a few years left in place all the time.

I use the Forerunner 201, set up for MPH and distance, also using the velcro strap wrapped around the headset next to the light switch. I bought a couple from that auction site and just keep one on the scoot and another on charge then swap them out when needed. Sometimes takes a few minutes for them to find a satellite, but if I switch it on as I open the garage, then by the time i have kicked the scoot over the Forerunner is ready to go.

No sign of any lack of waterproofness on mine - I used it on the Celtic Dash this weekend and some of the weather was biblical...

This one - 205 - I found was generally cheaper on the second hand market than the 201

Thank you chaps - appreciate the response.Don't why I thought it needed some type of bracketry, so jobs a good un.
Martin have thought about a SIP speedo but to be honest the Garmin seems the cheaper option.
Just have the feeling now I will be utterly dissapointed at how fast (or not) I am actually going

Always worth checking the CEX website, as the prices seem cheaper for forerunners than the auction site.

On the subject of forerunner 201, does anyone know where you can get a replacement charger, or have found an alternative charger that fits and works?

^ I purchased a USB lead that goes straight from any phone charger to the cradle. It works a treat, and is something else less to carry around with you.

It also means you can charge the Forerunner from a USB battery-pack when there is no mains available

Hi Martin, do you know what the connector type/pin diameter is for the Garmin cradle end?

It is about 2.4 or 2.5 mm OD, but the pin up the middle is less than 1mm.

Just thought I'd follow up on my original post - bought a Garmin 205, its a bubble burstin' bit of gadgetry but at least now I know how fast I'm not going

Yep, I've checked it against strava and runkeeper and the car speedo ( which I know to be 3mph fast) and sadly it's very accurate
