Improving my s2 suspension

Postby Storkfoot » Tue Sep 09, 2014 5:16 pm

It's a Spanish series 2 with a reverse pull front disc. The brake works well but there is a bit too much dive under sharp braking.

At the moment I have Scootopia progressive springs and cheap (non Escort) dampers. Back shock is a standard one I bought years ago. I deliberately didn't use MB springs as I have found them a bit harsh in the past. Perhaps I should have.

I am of the belief that merely putting good dampers on will not sort the suspension properly as the rear shock is part of the problem too. But, I plan to get new dampers first and , when I can afford it, a new rear shock.

I have never heard a bad word about the bgm adjustable dampers ( other than the price that is). Would these alleviate most of my problem?

I've got CamLam's ultimate fork springs (and no dampers) in my S2 and for £16.94 are without a doubt one of the best upgrades you can buy for that money, handles so much better and very little dive at the front. As for rear shock I've got a Hagon adjustable rear shock on my GT and that makes quite a difference as well and for around £100 is good value.

Thanks for that but I don't think Hagon do a S2 rear shock and I'm more convinced by the conventional bushing arrangements than the Hagon ones.

Will bgm dampers stop me diving too much, or will they just bring me back up more gently on the rebound?

Use a Hagon on my series for the last 3 years, can't fault it for the money

Just to update this thread, I have put a new vented disc on, an Italian one from Scooter Center. This did both improve the braking and make it smoother so it was less inclined to dive on braking. But, I still wasn't entirely happy.

I've now fitted a set of the bgm slimline non-adjustable front dampers. I have to say I'm pretty impressed with them so far (only done 100 miles or so).

Of course, upgrading the front is making me realise how basic the original type rear shock is.
