Crankshaft question

Postby Revvers » Sat Oct 04, 2014 9:24 am

Hello. How would I know if my crankshaft is twisted? Would it cause the stator plate to fail and/ give me no ignition spark? Thanks

It's possible but there are many things I'd check before suspecting that, have you tried removing the 2nd green wire in the cdi to eliminate the ignition cut out? Checked the resistance readings of the LT coil and pickup? Tried a spare CDI?

The local shop are picking it up and have already hinted at a twisted crank. I just wanted an idea in my head. I'll ask them to check all the above. Have spent a lot of dosh on the old girl this year, don't want to fork out much more!

It's a Mugello 185 (one of the original ones) with an Ancillotti exhaust

Not implying at all that your scooter shop are anything other than honest but if you have sown a seed with them that you believe it's a twisted crank then they may well strip the heart of the engine out anyway.
Best to check the easily accessible things first as suggested: Stator, CDI, Wiring

Actually Chris, I'm too thick to suggest that to them! They put a new stator plate a couple of months ago when the scoot was resprayed and after reading on AF Rayspeed and Cam Lam websites, I'm wondering if the stator has failed which is a cheaper fix! I just didn't know if a twisted crank would cause no spark and/or stator plate failure

I'd had initial problems with the carb and after sorting that, I discovered there was no spark at the plug
