Rear Hub Nut

Tightened rear hub nut to 100lb/ft then tried on lock ring and screw but did not align with holes.

Tightened to 110lb/ft then tried again but still no alignment?

Decided that another increase to 120lb/ft would not provide enough rotation to fit screw so I loosened the nut off completely and and then just tightened to 90lb/ft where it did align and fitted locking and screw.

Question is will this be ok?

It's a bit hard to say without further info.
Were the threads dry our lubricated? Are they old threads with surface rust?
Is the rust on the male or female thread or both?
Torque isn't really important, it's bolt tension that matters. But it's really hard to measure bolt tension, so we use torque instead. Torque should be reduced by anything up to 40% if the thread are lubricated. This is to avoid putting excess tension into the joint, especially the bolt, which can yield.
Also, I don't know if the quoted 120ftlb is for a dry or oiled connection.

Yes good point torque is all well and good but friction has a large part to play.

The threads were in excellent condition & just cleaned out with a rag.

The nut is a nos nyloc.

It tightened up a 90lb/ft then showed very little movement after increasing to 110?

apologies if it seems like I'm stating something obvious, but have you tried the lock ring in all three possible positions and if that doesn't line up flip it over and try it again?

And are you using a long enough lever?

There are better lock rings available. By better,I mean ones that are thicker (the nut can sometimes ride-over the lock ring on poor manufactured components) and rings with multiple holes (at slightly different angles from the centre) for the grub screw. This gives about six extra options for where to position the lock washer over the nut.

Chris Sadd in Norwich used to make a good one but I am sure someone will have their own version by now. Try K2 Custom, Lambretta Innovations or MB.

Certain locking rings don't fit certain hubs. Why. Not got a clue. I've used different makes on scootopia hubs. Some holes line up perfect. Some need slight fettling on the height adjustment to get locking stud in. The 3 fix ones are worse. Casa one fits well and it's deeper

I've got a casa 3 hole on mine and lined up perfectly with a uni hub. I've heard people only torquing to 110lb or less, I do the same, trying to get to 120lb and my eyeballs and veins are bulging..

is that the same as in 1st gear, one foot on rear brake pedal whilst the others standing on a large ring spanner?
