What causes the kickstart shaft to move inwards?

Postby GP Kevo » Wed Sep 20, 2023 12:53 am

SIL GP200 engine and side case, MB 6 plate internal clutch, TS1 etc.

For a second time on my engine the kickstart shaft has moved inwards causing it to rub on the top clutch plate and also causing the kickstart teeth to stay in contact with first gear when running. How can I identify what is causing this? Looking for some advice. Thank you in advance.

I would advise that you inspect the groove in the kickstart shaft that retains the circlip to check that it is good and square. If the upper edge has rounded off, it will allow the circlip to slip out of the groove.
MB do a nice circlip with fairly strong outer load bearing tabs. A standard type circular circlip aint gonna cut it here.

We solved the problem. The reference pin was loose and rotating. We put in a new one and I'll test it tomorrow.
