Steering bearing advice

Hi all,
Thanks for the add, just started an LI125 rebuild, still new to all this and trying to find my way around the best spare part suppliers.
I recently bought a steering bearing kit for a S3 chrome ring and was surprised to find the upper loose in the chrome ring, bit too much for bearing fit, and the lower loose on the fork.
Chrome ring is original Italian and both original bearing and ring were tight to come out , lower inner race was also tight, so I suspect the kit.
Can anyone recommend a supplier that might be able to help? The ID of the chrome ring is 36.48mm , is that normal?

Hi and welcome.
This may help with your request in ensuring you're not going mad. It does also depend on where you bought the bearings - I usually use places such as Scooter Restorations, MB scooters for various bits. Torquay Lambrettas are also good alongside a few others ( there are a few good dealers). Some one should be able to help with a correct part number

Thanks for your reply, I don't really want to name the supplier but they get mentioned in Stickys manual so I thought I was onto a winner, that's why I'm a bit unsure now on where to look next. They were great in sorting out a return and refund so can't complain there.

I'd measure the original set that came out with some calipers and then you have a decent benchmark of what will fit.

Can you not reuse the originals ? are they beyond use ?

Not all replacment parts are of the same standard that the factory fitted - so check everything twice

I when I striped it down the first time I had to thrash both upper and lower out. I put together a parts order list, then I got a mail off dvla saying they needed to inspect for V5 and needed to be complete. I didn't fancy thrashing them back in and out again so I skimmed a bit off each so they would be easy to take out again, if I had only known where this was going I would have measured first. Just ordered another set from a supplier mentioned above and hopefully they will be tighter.

The original tops had chattered a bit ad the lower slightly pitted.

I ordered a set from Scooter Restorations at 3.30 yesterday afternoon and they arrived this morning and look like they will be nice and tight.

That's where I got my NOS bearing races from for my chrome ringed version after buying some crap ones, spot on fit too
