Just bought this series 2 which is a local scooter and has been in the area since new in 1960. Would like to think it was the first S2 I owned back in 67 ish but can't remember and in those days we didn't fill in log books or tax and insure them ( I was only 13 or 14 ) :oops: so no references,
The intention was to use it as is just changing the usual cables brakes etc BUT it isn't orginal paint and front mudguard is shot so looks like a total resto coming up :( £££££££ here we go again. BUT !!!!
My first S2 and the difference noticed from my S3's is it seems a lot heavier and the headset top and bottom fit perfectly :) Image

Nice find,personally I would change as little as possible appearance wise.

WELL !!!!!!!!
Started to strip it yesterday and couldn't do it ha ha. I've restored series 3's which were just scooters but this S2 is different. Has a bit of character about it so decided to leave the bodywork as is and just rebuild the engine and brakes etc.
No doubt the kids in the street will ridicule me when i'm pushing it home from a ride out and my missus will say " he's not with me" :lol: but what the hell. Plus won't do too much damage when I have an off :roll:

I reckon that's a v good decision too! Doesn't matter that the paint is not original, any new paint you'd have put on wouldn't be original either . Looks great As is, it's quite unique . 8-)

I have a Spanish S2 that I stripped down and rebuilt as it was. It was pretty straight but I did take the leggies, runners, sidepanels and front mudguard to a panel beater just to straighten out a bit.

Yours looks pretty straight but, if I were you, I'd still consider doing the same, certainly on the front mudguard ;)

Compared to the front mudguard on my S2,yours looks perfectly ok...........I'll swap you. ;)

I have the front mudguard off at the minute and it's either going to have to be used as is or scrap. It's way past salvage, it's fairly straight but the beading round the edge has been welded , brazed and bashed and the bottom fixings have patches welded on. I'll send pics when I get them. Quite pleased it's not going to be a resto as i've already got one and starting a special so a nice change.
