too good to be true?

I've been offered an sx200, tv200, sx200 with ts1 engine for a good price. This seems too good to be true to me.

Apart from frame and engine numbers matching the BLA register, is there anything else I should look out for? For instance, how do I know the TV isn't really a 175?
That seem to have the same frame numbers.

Any help appreciated.

Depends what you mean by a 'good price'. That will have many variables ref overall condition. A genuine Sx in average condition alone can fetch £4K plus..
Post some pictures if you have any.

Believe me, the price is VERY good, but I want to know that what I'm buying is genuine. It's easily worth the money even if it's fake, but I still want to know what I'm getting into.

Can I rely purely on frame numbers?

Are the DGM numbers right too?

Any signs of grinding or welding?

Do you trust the seller? Somebody you know?

Other than that I guess you have to ask yourself why the price is so good...

If either has a DGM I'd walk away.

TV had none and an SX should have an IGM number according to the BLA.

I think you've answered you own question. If it's such a good deal buy them as long as they're not stolen

You've misunderstood my question Dave. There was never any doubt I'd buy it (I know it's not stolen as I know the history of the collection), I just want to know if it's real or fake. I'm reasonably clued up on these things, but definitely not an expert. Anyway, a helpful chap in Sunderland has offered to show me round his tv200 so I know the subtle clues to authenticity.

but youre contradicting yourself, you now seem to be saying you know the scoots etc so why not just buy them, you either know they are kosher or not, Im not getting which it is now?

I met a bloke the other week who thought he'd bought an Italian GP because of the reg number and frame numbers
but the frame was Indian and the rear frame tube,crossmember and fork tube told a different story to the yarn he'd
been spun by the seller.
Take someone who knows and make a few checks yourself,there's plenty of information on the net and plenty of
reputable dealers who will point you in the right direction.

No big surprise, but it was too good to be true.

The tv200 and sx200 had their frame numbers removed and the ts1 had a logbook with a different frame number!

Lying thief just trying to offload his sh1te onto me.

I wasted a day and a tank of petrol to see these "genuine" scooters.

So everyone look out for scooters or parts from Brian in Swinton; he is a dishonest timewaster.

It's a long, drawn-out mate-of-a-mate thing.

I wasn't really looking for anything, but when you're offered an immaculate TV200, SX200 and TS1 engined SX200 plus load of NOS and used spares for £4000 you're going to have a look, aren't you?

Of course I had my doubts about this, but I pressed him several times by phone about whether or not everything was above board and why it was so cheap. Only last night I asked him to make sure that all the paperwork was ready before I got there as I'd need to check the frame numbers. He told me it was so cheap because he just wanted to get rid of it as it had been sitting there for years and just getting started every now and again to keep the engine from seizing.

This story of course turned out to be utter BS.

Exactly; it was recommended to me via a chain of people who thought they knew each other, but as you point out, some or all of us were wrong.
