Speedo condensation

Postby Chewyboy » Wed Sep 28, 2016 8:52 pm

Hi everyone
Any ideas why my speedo gets condensation inside the glass, and how to cure it? It's a bog standard one nothing fancy on my S3 restoration.
Thanks in anticipation

I have an original speedo on both a series 2 and a series 3 and after I've washed them they both steam up for a while.

Water getting in through the seal, I drill a couple of small holes in the lowest point of the case. Let's them breath, the speedo light warms and dries them out

Take the glass from the seal and run a thin bead of clear silicone around the edge and replace..

I've used those little silica bead bags that come in electrical goods.

Get it all the time on my S2. After 3-4 days in the dry the condensation evaporates. Even my ahem Vespa GTS has the same problem, clears with a few days in the dry. Both let in a tiny but noticeable amount of moisture when deluged.

It's a natural phenomenon. A 'friend' has had it on his Vespa GTS that I've ( sorry, 'he's' ) owned from new.

I was having a problem with this on my TV. Took the speedo apart. Dried in a warm oven. Re assembled with three silica gel packets I got from Amazon. My TV is never garaged and ridden all weather. No issues with condensation now. Speedo lens is clear.
