layshaft and sliding dog compatability

Postby bjhart » Wed Feb 18, 2015 11:54 pm

Hi
Can Anyone tell me if the 3speed & 4 speed items are actually the same? The Cento ,starstream and lui parts books all give the same part numbers????

Thanks
Barry

I'd have thought the 3 speed ones were shorter.

Me too but the part numbers listed are the same, hence the question, although the lever only has the same amount of movement maybe the gears are just thinner. I am trying to build a starstream engine from bare casings.....

You would need the Starstream layshaft as it uses a cone to hold the hub on, Lui and Vegas are just a spline fit.

My Parts book shows the same layshaft for J50, Cento and J125, 3 speed models, Part number 2005 3002.
The Starstream 4 speed (and Vega 4 speed) layshaft appears to be a different Part number : 2035 3002.

Hope that helps
