LDA VV GREEN RESISTOR

Postby Bettagetabrettabolti » Tue Sep 16, 2014 5:55 am

Can anyone help?

I need a resistor for the 150 LDA Vv - it is green and about 100mm long.

All I can find out is it is 3.5 ohms but don't know what the wattage is which is hindering me finding a replacement.

Thanks Chaps

Hi Sid - Working backwards from the maximum electrical power output of the AVV generator, I reckon a power rating around 40 to 50 watts for the resistor should be about right. The maximum power of the generator is probably around 60 watts, the ignition system would take around 10 watts, plus a few watts going into the battery if it's nearly fully charged, and a few more for the regulator. If you're not too concerned about fitting an original green vitreous enamel coated resistor, a good alternative would be the alloy-cased high wattage resistors (available from RS amongst others). They do need to be mounted on a heatsink, though, if you don't want them to burn out!
