LD150 (1955)

Postby Oldiron1955 » Mon Jan 19, 2015 2:30 pm

Hello

I just became a member of the forum, although I've scanned this forum on and off for a few months now trying to educate myself and decide which model I wanted and how I planned to use it.

I've ridden motorcycles for the better part of 30 years. My first road bike was a Honda MBX80 which I rode the wheels off. I've ridden is string of Honda over the years a Harley for ten years sold it in my mid-forties which give way too my vintage/classic bike years. 47 BSA M20, 59 Triumph, 71 BMW R60/5 SWB and I've enjoyed have them all.

I'm still into my classics, I currently have three Honda's in the garage a 69 CB450K1, 71 CL350K3 Street scrambler and 75 CB550/4.

Now for the Lambretta's and hopefully for many years ahead!

Here's the story, placed an advert in Gumtree as you do!! looking for a late 50s or early 60s Lambretta, after about 5 weeks I got an email from a guy selling a 1955 LD150 that was taken apart 20 years ago, it’s basically a few boxes of parts a frame and panels (no documents) he was looking a few hundred pounds so I could resist. Two days after buying my first I spot another Lambretta for sale, exactly what I was looking for unrestored & low mileage. It’s another 1955 LD150 one owner from new, 12000 miles on the clock and all its documents the logbook was only stamped from 1955 to 58.
The lady who sold it to me said it originally belonged to her great uncle when he died the scooter was given to her father who never registered it in his own name but occasionally used it. Her father past away over ten years ago, so she think the scooter hasn't been started for over 15 years.

My plan is to get the LD running and on the road this summer, adding a few hundred miles onto the clock. Then come the following winter I can decide then on a full restoration project.

From what I've seen on here I'm pretty sure there are plenty of people around who can really help.
I will be asking lots of stupid questions along the way, but these questions & answers will also help rebuild this new forum!!!

I look forward to all the help I can get on here.

That one looks very nice and may even be too good to strip and paint. Have fun.

If you do decide to re-build it (strip/paint etc) I hope you will post a few or a lot of the things you go through and find.
Might try an LD after my TV Ser 3.

Yes its the Galway LD.
Plan to keep as found and have it on the road this summer.
There's going to be plenty of questions & photos along the way, that's for sure!!

I've got to register the LD in the North Ire first, so I'll also need some advice here!
