Restoring an LD Mk2/3?

'm at the start of a big re-build of a TV 175 Ser 3 and it is a great thing to do.

Very much fancy an LD, late model as the next one.

What are they like to restore?

My main concern is parts; are there any parts that are very hard to find?
I've replaced so much of the TV (which was tired but complete) I feel I could have bought a far rougher scooter because so much has to be replaced.

Hope someone who has done it can comment please.

If you prefer to buy replacement parts rather than repair / reuse existing parts then any early model may be a more difficult undertaking. That said if you buy wisely then you shouldn't have to replace that much, the effort /cost might be in the labour though unless you do your own work.

Labour is definitely DIY, don't like using specialists!

Scooter Restorations seem to have a lot covered, cables, bearings brakes etc.
Food for thought.

lots of cosmetic and service type parts are now available from Casa (badges, cables rubbers, seat covers, electrics etc) with the range growing all the time, there are some specialist dealers in the UK who stock a lot of the Casa shaft drive parts, such as Scootopia, scooter surgery...

Any other bits not available as remade parts, castings , engine parts etc I have always managed to find either on this forum, ebay or the likes of Mr Chambers, in many cases even NOS parts... there just isn't the demand so prices are often better than you might think, I recently paid £100 for a NOS d125 gearbox on here. not bad for something over 60 years old.

Building of the engines is not always quite so straight forward, and you do need some special tools, although there are a few experts dotted around and much help available on here, there is not much in the way of a modern manual available only old innocent and period publications (in the Queens English of the time) and the normal service manuals from the 70's which are ok but don't deal with all the versions in detail (a Stickies type manual for the early models would be a god send....) Vittorio's restoration guide does cover these models as well...

Anyway I have reasonably successfully restored a model F & D125 and I love them, ok they are slow but they are great fun to ride if you are not in a hurry!

It would be good to see some tech articles either on the website or forum and/ or in Jetset for the early models, we can all access info on the later models in various ways.

Come on shaft experts share the knowledge!!!! :idea:

I agree with bjhart, I'm a novice when it comes to working on Lambretta's.
Ive a basic understanding of mechanics but having access to tech in plain text is a big advantage when it comes to removal, repair & replace.

There was quite a lot of technical stuff freely posted by myself and by others....and then the old forum collapsed! :(
I'm quite happy to share any shaft drive knowledge which others might find useful, but hurry up with the questions, my memory's not what it was...... :roll:
