Three times I have set off for the 8 Balls rally, this weekend was the first time I've actually made it!! But it was well worth the perseverance, great venue, great people and great weather.
Thanks to everyone who worked hard to make it work so well 8-)

Glad it all went well for you 8 balls and many thanks on the hospitality offered and concern on my flying visit Friday evening
My rally was curtailed by a mate coming off his scooter @40 miles away after being cut up at a roundabout clipping the kerb and the scooter bursting into flames then on arrival finding out my youngest son was rushed into hospital with appendicitis , the lad on the scooter was fine ( Moth from Whitby) although very downhearted after watching his scooter go up in flames and my son is onto the road to recovery after an operation early Saturday morning

Toddy

Any idea what caused the scoot to go up in flames, (i.e. was there an escape of petrol onto the hot exhaust?)

There was lots of different theories over the weekend what caused the ignition that resulted in the fire, it would be good to hear from those that where there.

Cheers

Unless they investigate it I don't know how you would tell we couldn't get close enough to tell due to the heat , moth said it flipped over chucked him off as he got up to his feet the fire had started
Could be any number of things , fuel pipe pulled off ruptured , tank splitting , tank lid of , fuel tap rupturing etc etc I think it must of been excess fuel as I was with martin the week before when his tank boss ruptures and that was gushing out but never ignited ?

Petrol needs a spark or flame to ignite it, could easily have come from the scoot scraping the ground. I came off my scoot when I was 16 on a roundabout due to the van in front leaking petrol. As I stood up and lifted the scoot I could feel flames around my ankles as the spilt fuel ignited, there was a 'burning ring of fire' running round the roundabout  Luckily for me the scoot didn't have a leak and the only damage was a melted sock on my right ankle which I didn't notice until I got undressed later that night :? A spark from a battery could do it too but not the heat from the exhaust on it's own. Glad the rider is ok, scooters can be fixed/replaced.

I saw you arrive and leave almost immediately, glad you're lad is ok, I can't imagine what it must have been like having to go back without a break after a not inconsiderable journey like yours :o

Such a shame for Moth and glad your lad is on the mend too Toddy. There were a few offs this weekend but think everyone is ok. Paint and metal can be fixed.
A wonderful rally again, always a lovely warm welcome. By the way who won Jim's huge trophy? Poor bugger, it was a true work of art as all the 8 Balls trophies but was about 4 foot long and made of an RSG! Definitely need a decent rack for that one lol :D
