I can’t see what they could have done. The archive record only referred to the registration number. It made no mention of the frame number and there was no supporting paperwork.

The scooter was manufactured in 1967 but registered in the UK in March 1968 as an F registration.

The engine is a 1969 GP150

By the time I became aware of Kithead Trust, my V5C application was already with the DVLA. I thought I’d be asking for a heap of trouble with our friends in Swansea if they did find something and I then tried to rescind my V5C application.

Curiosity got the better of me and late yesterday evening I sent Kithead an email. This morning I received a reply:

“Thank you for your message. Unfortunately however we will not be able to assist as we do not have any DW series records.”

DW was a Newport registration series.

It was worth try, I've managed to get 2 original plates back on Lambrettas that had been re registered. It is the luck of the draw though as some regions still retain the records in the archive, others just threw them away.

To be fair to the DVLA they were very good in both cases.

I assumed that there was no way the DVLA would even consider doing that. Did you have to pay another £55?

No, the £55 is the first registration fee so once it's registered it's paid.

If there is the original record and you have proof they cant refuse. Allegedly.

Finally sorted (as much as they ever are) with a Casa 185 and a standard exhaust. Very nice torquey ride on A roads.

Very nice, a credit to you and your work getting it sorted. Always thought a standard pipe on a casa/scootopia 185 kit would give a smooth ride with good bottom end power - love the tractability you get from a stock exhaust. Nice one Paul.

Yep, the picture was taken from my tent at the Trojans’ rally in Milnthorpe. It’s next trip should be Kelso.
