from rusto to resto

Postby Cheersdude » Thu Oct 16, 2014 12:36 pm

hi all, I started this rusto/resto 3 years ago and it was only meant to be a strip down, clean, rewire, re-cable and put back together. But lets just say things don't always work out the way you plan them!

After starting to strip down and clean I had a change of mind and decided that new paint would be in order. So i sent off the bodywork to be blasted and primed. The company that where going to blast them refuse as they thought the metal was to thin and there wouldn't be any left by the time they'd finished. I ended up doing them by hand.

After stripping I sent everything off to be painted, after a lengthy wait i got the frame and the forks back. the rest took another 2 years and 3 different painter (its a long story)

3 years is a long time to wait - but looks worth it, scooter looks amazing!!

stripping paint by hand is a very dull task.

have you rebuilt everything yourself?

You have done a cracking job there but I must say I liked it how it was.

yes matt did the rebuild myself, which has not taken that long. if i could weld and paint it wouldn't have take 3 years !

It's an Acewell, good bit of kit for around £100. Nice looking scooter

I can weld, but body work is a black art :)

How much longer do you think the build will take?

Could I enquire about what front disc brake and dampers you're using, looks a sweet set-up. Was going to ask about the speedo too, but someone's already answered that, a very nice edition.

yeah the speedo is made by acewell, but you have to cut about an inch off the bottom otherwise it fouls the gear change and throttle pulleys.

the front dampers are BGM and the disc brake and anti dive are from Scootrs. had to change the bolts in the clamp has they fouled the dampers

i'm just waiting for the engine, everything else is done. just bolt in and go.

told the engine builder that i want it back for the R.O.R in london, so a couple more weeks (fingers crossed)

the engine nears completion, it's still at the builders but only a few small bits to finish off. the head is having some welding done to fit a temp sensor and the carbs being machined down a bit to give better clearance under the panels.

ts1, rb 6o stoke crank, li150 box, af cassette clutch, af franspeed super tourer exhaust, varitronic ignition.
engine cowling and flywheel cover will be in orange to match the scoot.

just dreading the final bill!
