1961 TV175 series 2

1961 TV175 series 2
Bought new in 1961 by my father in law for £212 with accessories (including tartan seat cover as pictured below) and then put in his shed in 1964 with only 9700 miles on the clock. Brought back to life today after 6 months work. Used as much of the original scoot as possible. Few body parts that could not be saved, inner front mudguard and rear mudguard, petrol tank (all too rusty/damaged to recover). Engine was very clean when we opened the case - replaced clutch plates. Sounds fantastic
The bits I changed - electrics now 12v. Clubman exhaust.
All of the original parts not used including exhaust, John Bull tyres, cables, petrol tank etc taken off are in a box just in case :D
Took hundreds of photos from start to finish.

The question is what is it now worth for insurance purpose ? It will never be sold but need to get valuation.

Cheers
The option to restore or not ......... the father in law wanted to see it again like it was the day he drove it out of BH Franks of Goole in 1961 - decision made.

Very nice mate, well done. Personally I don't get the ' Rusteration' thing but I guess that 's the Mod in me rather than being a pure scooterist.

Got the manuals stamped with BH Franks
Cant find sales receipt at the moment but we will. Also got insurance document from 1963 for £6.21 (bit more than that now)
Just putting together the story of the scooter with father in law help - fascinating.

Fantastic job ! looks spot on ! I own two "rustorations" & my first impression was leave it as is but after reading your description that your father in law wanted it restoring to its former glory then I totally agree the best decision was made ! well done ! al ;)

As joespeed said £5000 plus. Insurance value would certainly be higher perhaps closer to 7 grand. Would be worth getting LCGB valuation. Also because it's brit reg and you have it's original history and what looks like a Pegasus seat perhaps closer to 6 grand. Certainly more sort after with the brit reg. Dealers prices would be higher. People moan about high prices but I am still shocked myself when dealers I know tell me prices they get for the Italian imports from someone that wants a Lambretta.

that bike is worth £7 to 8.5K as it is restored freshly, the actual cost supplied and restored by a dealer would probably be £10k to make any money,
you would sell it easily for £6000 quickly and even more if you waited, the English history would add £2k value to right buyer and you probably wouldn't want see it go for less to someone who was going to stick a kit in it as just a another toy to discard. If you clocked up all your hours at £20 an hour it wouldn't make much sense to sell it for less, unless you like working for £2 an hour.

Scooters are pocket money toys to the wealthy so still cheap compared with jags and even vw campers.

I hope you enjoy it its a lovely scooter but it would cost £7 or 8K to buy one like that and more with history. So £8k insurance value, most companies do not quibble at valuations up to £7k as long as supported by fair evidence. Obviously an li150 would only get £4500 to £5000 even with much history, and would still cost almost as much to be restored by a dealer so you would never get £7k out off an insurer in the case of a total loss.

The premium models attract a premium prices and are more desirable to the general public if not necessarily enthusiasts like us who still choke at the cost, having brought an sx200 for £25 in 1981, and a tv2 175 for £75 in 1983 but I could have brought a terraced house for £7k then and that would be worth at least £90K now.
