Cheers lads for the comments.
Christmas came early for the GSC.

Picked up the chroming from local platers, on 1st inspection seems spot-on. Tastefully wrapped in the Daily Sport. Scooter porn? About 20 pieces in total, couple of pics of the main bits, apologies if the 'wrapping paper' causes offence.

Finally managed to pick up the heat lamps from a local hire shop, they're buck-shee, so beggars and choosers on the wait for them. Masked up the loop ready for etch priming the frame.

Image

Frame primed and baking. It's a bit tight in the booth, should have made it bigger, obviously. We'll see how it all pans out, frame needs filling/prepping in places, but hopefully basecoat on soon.

Only self acquired skills Steve, if skills at all? I'm an office wollah, but building scoots requires an element of DIY, or pay thru the nose... I'd rather the former, you 'know' your own bike that way. Unfortunately I tend to favour modified scooters, this then brings its own complications... they should really be left as they left the factory, but where's the fun in that? As they say... if you want something doing, DIY.

I'm getting myself a bit concerned about the 2k clear to be used for the flake and finish in the 'paint booth', I may have built myself a wooden tomb, considering the fume cloud when doing the etch primer, so installed an inline air extractor 2day, looks like an extra from Dr. Who... hopefully clear the smog. That's not a Middlesborough joke Gaz Powell.

I've been lurking and now joined mainly for this build and Brazilian Love Affair.
I'm a connoisseur of the 80's Style and currently building a GP.
Keep up the great work and get that candy and flake flying

Quality. Nobby (BLA) and I are best mates. Bit of a coincidence were both doing 80s jobbies but seeing as Nobby, Smurf and I
did our rat S1's a few yrs ago together probably not a big surprise!!!

Hello STP, (Psychobilly Slacker on SBW?)
Nobby is in Reading and I'm Oxford... were Oxford Roadrunners.

I'm only using Vinyl as templates for masks and stencils, there's no Vinyl on finished job. As a signwriter/pinstriper
I reckon you've obviously got a far steadier hand than myself, think I've seen your work on Scooterotica a while back. I used to signwrite my panels years ago, but the years have taken their toll on steadiness! Do you mean I should have freehand airbrushed the logo/name? That's way past my abilities. I work in a printers Studio with access to a vinyl cutter, so trying to use that skill to help make the spraying/masking easier.

Hopefully get some candy on 2day.

It's me indeed lol
Thought I recognised your name on here too 8-)
Once these are done with I think a meet up is on the cards as I'd love a word with the pair of you regarding 80's Custom scoots.

Yeah be nice to see it on freehand as back in the day but not always possible.

Would you be fogging around the lettering on the finished lettering, think that would work better to dumb down the clean edges of the mask a little.
Feel free to tell me to F**k Off lol 8-)

Yeah, intend a drop shadow around it, and various other parts of the artwork, to lift them off seemingly underneath layers. We'll see, like I said previously never used flake/candy/fine line masking before so it's all a bit of a trial, hence the test panel. For fine detail/outlining/fogging etc what would you recommend air brush wise? My smallest spraygun has a 0.8 nozzle and I reckon that'll be too big for some bits. Got any links? Cheers.

The flake looks killer
Thinking ahead one thing that could catch you out your test panel is flat and horizontal so you will be able to wack a fair bit of pain't & laquer on but the actual frame and loop has a lot of curves etc.
You've to be careful it's dead easy to get runs .
When you ready to start make sure you can get all around 360 degrees .
What I used to do when I was painting a car or whatever , I did a dummie run With an empty gun and pretended to paint it for real you may find the job is in the
Wrong position or the heights wrong .
The temperature can have an effect don't chose a cold damp day.

As slacker said feel to tell me to F/O it wouldn't be the first time.
Great

Cheers Phil, already bought some more ply yesterday, booth simply wasn't big enough, not even for frame only and heat lamp, let alone bodywork as well.
