Ts1 DQ262

Postby lou » Tue Apr 02, 2024 5:03 pm

Hi

Is it unheard of to run TS1 30 mm VHSH with DQ262
I’m running at present (below) is still to boggy half throttle horrendous
Clears if open throttle wide even when pull away , not enjoyable, if anyone
Has gone down to such a lean atomiser.

Thanks in advance.

Current set up

DQ 264
K21 .. (tried k98)
NK Road
Pilot 60
Choke 60
17 degree

Try a K5 needle on top clip with the DQ-264

Already done K5 is richer needle than K21, makes it worse I suppose only option stepping down on atomiser.

I run VHSBs and have lots of experience of worn atomisers or needles giving very unexpected richness when worn. Indeed, this has cost me a few quid when trying to use my own spares when having bikes dynoed, and is why some dyno operators refuse to dyno with anything other than new spares (false economy to try to save a few quid).

As such, the first thing that I would do is to swap out both the atomiser and needle, then assess where you are.

Good luck getting it resolved.

Bang on above, had the same with VHSB in TS1, running open no filter.

Great carbs, but the needles, atomisers and slides wear out quickly...its amazing what a refurb does.

They are expensive on parts compared to the PHBH

Can’t work this out changed the atomiser on VHSH to a Dq262 with with K5 needle to learn up quarter to mid range , However it ran really high revs wouldn’t drop, got it to a happy medium when gave it some throttle the revs didn’t drop for few secs as if there’s a air leak , I know there’s no leak it’s been tested

I have a spare VHSH so swapped everything over including slide jets etc , and it runs fine!? What can the difference be.

Rate of float bowl refilling... possible issue or blockage in the drillings? Did you change everything over, incl. float, float needle valve, emulsifier tube in the body (under the pilot jet) can be missing / generic CD1 or sized. If sized then changing to a bigger pilot jet doesn't actually increase the flow available, i.e. a 60 pilot over a B45 emulsifier tube will only flow as much as a 45 pilot would.

^... just a few elements to consider. Hopefully you will get it sorted.

No I just changed main jet atomiser and slide , the rest where same in both carbs

Can I achieve similar jetting leaning up mid throttle with DQ262 then richer needle , to compensate a big change from
DQ264 ( if get me) or in anyone experience is DQ262 lean for a TS1 engine ! .. Headache

It’s a lot cleaner with Dq262 and K5 needle .

Personally, I'd transfer everything so that you can fully appreciate if you take the issue from one carb body to the other.

I think it’s the slide body black incert it just falls out of the other carb I had an issue with , it seems very worn at a guess would that be the problem ,

Try the K5 on clip 2 if I was you that could be borderline lean on a 262 or maybe clip 1.5 with a thin washer under
But IMO as I said earlier I’d run the K5 on top clip with a DQ-264

I was originally on DQ264 k21 mid range boggey 40mph was awful The K5 is richer needle than k21 … tried k5 with 264 it was worse on top clip … as I said next move was come down to Dq262 with K5 but very nervous that I’m going to learn , my thought was using richer needle with smaller atomiser not so much of a jump , if it works that way ?

These VHSH carbs  ;) …. Never been able to set up sweet always issue at somewhere within jetting
Get 1/2 throttle right then week on on 1/4 and vice versa … maybe suited to karts !!

I love the VHS* range although the wear rate is high'ish. TBH I don't think I've ever bettered them, once set up correctly. Mikuni and PHBH are easier to set up but the final result is no better.

I've used VHSA, VHSB and VHSH, being really happy when dialled in correctly. Getting to that point can be expensive though as you have the option of dyno (best option if you use the right people) or jetting it yourself.. with components becoming frustratingly expensive.

Once correctly set they are still my go to.

I have quite a range of VHSB carburettors & spares & will admit that the majority of my experience is with piston ported engines. Somewhere in my garage are notes on the set-ups for various engines....

So, why do I had it in my head that the reed valve engines are best suited to DP atomisers?

I’ve tried a few DP atomisers totally way too rich .

Presuming your choice of atomiser, needle & slide are thereabouts & not worn, have you tried dropping down on the pilot jet size? Having read through the whole of this Post, has the slide size been stated? If so, I've missed it.....
