Which is the thinnest carburettor?

I’ve just finished building a TS1 engine that will go into an Li Special. It’s freshly painted and I don’t want to drill the panels. I’d like to run a smaller carb than the TMX35 on my GP and had planned to use a TMX30, then found out they’re about 6mm wider, or deeper you might say

So what are the best options on 28 or 30mm carbs that fit under a full panel? I have the standard TS1 inlet manifold and really want to use that to keep the cost down.

Any advice about smaller carbs people are running on S3 Li with panels using a TS1?

if you use a smaller card you may have to change the manifold anyway

there are a couple of the bolt on rubber ts manifolds on ebay for good prices.These help pull the carb back away from the panel a bit..option worth considering?

Cheers chaps, Will have a look what’s about. Was hoping a stepped rubber and a 30phbh may fit, not sure if it’s thinner than the TMX30. May google some dimensions.

Have a mid range tank with the corner sculpted for a carb.

I have modified a Jimmers cast TS1 manifold to draw the carb an extra 9mm further from the panel. Considering that the Jimmers ccaat TS1 manifold is considered one of the smallest manifolds, it is amazing that I could gain an extra 9mm of clearance.

It did require a bit of ali welding and some machining, but it is possible to gain extra space.

The Jimmers manifold uses a flange rubber, such as those sold by Allen’s Performance. The LTH manifold is similar.

What about those ones darrell taylor had cast? I'm not sure about panel clearance but they were incredibly low profile so frame clearance would be better. Worth asking him.

Thanks all, haven’t really got the skills to adapt anything myself but as it sounds like I need to change the manifold i’ll contact Darrell to see if his works under a panel with TMX30 and I’ll get some dimensions on the Jimmers one (does he have a website?) and and the MB shorty.
If I can’t get a smaller carb under the panel I’ll just have to stick with the 35

My ts1 has the left hand manifold, fitted with a 30mm phbh Delly with gp air bellow into bgm airbox. The panel does hit on the bellow near the bottom by I guess 2 -3mm but still works ok.

Excellent, thanks for the replies especially those dimensions. I’ll run it with no filter, just a mesh, but looks like the manifold will have to be changed for an LTH (thought that actually stood for LefTHand at one time ) and the TMX30 should work being the same depth as a PHBH. It’s the wife’s scooter if she so much as sees me holding a panel and a drill at the same time I’m as good as six feet under

Those measurements are the depth of the individual carbs, from front to back

On a Left Hand side LTH manifold on series 1/2 with a PHBH30 there is about 40mm from the plastic bellmouth to the back of the panel. I have been using this setup all last year on a TS1230 but without a filter.
I reckon there is just enough room for a Tino type Breathe sweet although it’ll be squashed against the panel.

I’ve got TMX30 and have just checked it fitted and there is about 45mm from the bellmouth of the carb to the back of the panel
