MK2 26mm Amal Needle?

Postby eadmr04 » Wed Jun 17, 2015 7:13 pm

I'm running a 26mm mk2 amal open mouth and have been for about 10,000 miles. It's gradually running a bit spluttery/riche lower down the revs and i've gradually lowered the 2B1 needle to compensate. It's now on the top ring so can't lower any more but just wondered if it's possible the needle could be worn? Could I just replace the needle and raise it a bit again or is the next stage changing the needle to the next one down? If so, what would be the needle required to have it on the lowest ring (highest positon for needle) and be approximately the same as a 2B1 on top position (if this makes sense)

It is possible the needle or atomiser could be worn.

However the Amal only has the 2B1 needle for two strokes, so your choices are limited.

It's one of the great joys of the Amal carbs.

Ah....bugger :) Might try a new atomiser and needle then, must be some wear in them by now especially as it's been open mouth? Cheers.

I would imagine that 10,000 miles with an open mouth carb is probably about twice the mileage you could expect before changing the atomiser & needle on a motorbike. Factor in any inherent vibration & probably reduce that again. Your slide will have worn as well as the body.

Just my imagination, mind you.
