RT195 kit - which gearbox

Postby mark65 » Fri Jun 23, 2023 11:53 am

Hi,

looking to upgrade the SX150 gearbox on my RT195 (25 mm PHBL dellorto & BGM v4 exhaust) Few choices to think of; Italian (or early Spanish) Li150 or either the AF or Casa close ratio box.

Advice greatly appreciated on what i could expect to achieve with these choices against the SX150 gearbox.

Thanks

Li150 15/46 fd5.2 or 16/46 fd 4.9 if u want a little more top end but loose out on bottom n midrange grunt.
Suppose it’s what you want the scoot too pull will determine what gearbox n ratio ya go with ;)

Personally, I don't see a huge advantage in a 5 speed 'box with that set up.

A motor with a fairly wide spread of torque like yours won't really justify it.

If you mean the 4 speed close ratio box, I'd avoid the AF ones. They've had quality issues recently and can be a pig to set up, or impossible.

My personal preference is the Indian GP200 due to the short jump between 3 and 4.

The 5 speed option makes more sense if you do a very varied type of riding and could use 5th sort of like an overdrive.

Ive ended up with GP200 Italian gearbox, 18t sprocket, 46t crown wheel for 5.1 ratio. Seems almost perfect for me as i sometimes travel 2 up which was painful on a 150 box at 4.89 ratio. I have a NOS indian gp200 box to go in next strip down which should close the gap between 3rd and 4th a little.
