BGM lay shaft and Uni rear hub fit??

Need help with a tuning kit, how do you tune your scooter, which kit should I choose, and all general tuning and modifcations questions are for in here.

BGM lay shaft and Uni rear hub fit??

Postby jdevane5 » Fri Jun 23, 2023 1:20 pm

I have had a go at fitting a recently bought Uni rear hub with my new BGM layshaft and I cant get the Uni hub to fit..
I've the right cone fitted, shim /washer etc

It looks to me like the hub is the issue and the spline recess is soft and not uniform (as the rear hub fits on the layshaft if I assemble the wrong way around)....
Is this a common issue with these hubs?

I will now buy anther rear hub, was checking out the Scootopia one? Recommendations very welcome. Cheers

So had a chance to look into my rear hub fit today
It seems to be either the Newfren prorace shoes or the casing is out around the brake machining.
Read hub will not sit correctly.

I'm building with a new Uni 200 casing and read there can be issues with the rear brake pivots?

Hub fits perfectly without the brakes fitted!
Maybe I will get a rear disc and caliper to sort it :D

Anyone come across misaligned brake pivots? Is the fix weld up and remachine? What a ball ache..

I have had issues with Newfren shoes which are way too thick before. So thick that you can’t get the rear hub on. Is this your issue?

Are you sure that you have the right shoes to mate with the type of brake operating cam that you have?
GP cams and shoes are different to series 3 cams and shoes.

Ordered prorace Newfren shoes and oversized cam from MB,all for GP.
I will double check the part number on the Newfren box...

I'm now making a jig to skim the shoes on a lathe...
Did have a quick look at the Jockeys Boxenstop kit, which might sort the issue if the brake pivots are out on my new SIl 200 casing.
I have some old SIL shoes I may try as well.

I fitted an oversize cam from my, worst thing I ever fitted to a scoot; fettled/ skimmed, done everything possible but couldn’t get a decent brake, even new shoes, bought a std cam & straight away a perfect operation that I haven’t had to touch for 2 years now & been to France & back , the bigger cam pushes the shoes out at an acute angle is all I can put it done to
