RT 195 carb options

Postby P D: SC Chester » Wed Jan 31, 2024 5:58 pm

I have just replaced a Scootopia kit on my S2.
To be fair, the Scoopia has been brilliant. Lovely kit for a bit more power on a 125.
Could only pull 53 tops and that was ringing it's neck.
Not expecting a race machine with the RT, I understand it's limits.
My carbs are 22mm SH, 26 Delly, 28 Delly and a pwk 28. To be fair I don't understand the needle and Jets on the pwk, but I always here good things.
S2 will have 5 speed box and varitronic.

Your thought please?

Imo, there was something wrong with your Scootopia set up. Should be good for 60mph all day long. Guessing carb' size / settings, exhaust type or gearbox.

I sometimes think we expect too much from kits and base it on that Innocenti said a GP200 would do 70mph. Downwind, downhill or on a dyno maybe but with a 22mm carb and a pea shooter exhaust I doubt if it would do that on a GPS. Gearbox to exhaust is the main factor involved though, get that wrong and it either screams it's head off at 50mph or it spends most of it's time in 3rd gear.

If you decide to use the PWK 28 then there is 110+ pages discussing setting up RT195/225s over on the GSF, including plenty of recommendations for PWK jetting.

Before you splash the cash on a new RT kit, I'd take another look at your current set up if I were you.
I've got a Scootopia kit with 22mm carb and Scootopia Clubman exhaust. Admittedly I have an old Cyclone gearbox, but she'll reach 60mph quite happily & will do 55mph all day. I was followed by a mate with GPS & was told I hit 70mph on a long downward stretch in Scotland. If you do go for another kit then at least RT is a good choice
