Need help with a tuning kit, how do you tune your scooter, which kit should I choose, and all general tuning and modifcations questions are for in here.

RT 195 Reedvalve?

Postby Micky67keane » Fri Mar 08, 2024 9:52 pm

I've got a RT195 with 28 phbh and a BGM box(v2),at the moment I'm getting about 62mph(gps).
I'm thinking of maybe getting it reedvalved with a touring tune.
What sort of speed increase would I be looking at?
Thanks in advance

That sounds a little low to me. Maybe your gearing could be the solution if top speed is all you want to increase.

What gearbox and sprockets are you running.

But as a more direct answer to your question, I have a rt225 with Reed and Ron Moss pipe and although I have no idea what my top speed is, it's as much as I want and definitely a good bit more than 62mph.

Thanks Dickie,
Im using a Pacemaker box with 16/46 sprockets which gives me I think 5.29 fd.95% of my riding is two-up.It pulls well with us both on but just feel I need a little more top end.

Reed valves are not a route to more speed. They have several advantages but they are a effectively a restriction in the inlet tract and therefore do not increase air/fuel flow into the engine.

As others have suggested, you might need to look elsewhere for the tardy performance. Have you had it dyno’d? It might give you a phew extra mph by improving the carburation, but you are not too far from what I would expect for a GPS top speed for your set-up.

Thanks for the advice,I haven't had it dyno'd,the jetting was suggested by the guy who built the engine and all seems ok,no dead spots pulls well.
Just a little disappointed at top end, should have stuck with the Lammy speedo it was touching 70.Lol

Are you getting 62 mph 2's up? With your fdr you will need to rev to about 8000 revs to get 70. Gearing, tuning is a compromise you could change things to make it do 80 solo on the flat but it will die on hills once you're 2's up. There is a rose tinted view of lammy top speeds but if it's 62 2's up that not bad

62, two up is a good top speed for your set up. A bit better exhaust, ie Avanti Ex Box and maybe a change of gearing could help a lot.

Thanks for the advice,I was looking at an ex-box so may go down that route.

I've got AF 4speed close ratio and 20/47, so FDR is 4.7.

Higher capacity than yours and a avanti pipe. I'm the opposite, 95% of my riding is solo. But I reckon you could comfortably go to 17 tooth front.

Think I may give this a go.
