150 to 200 studding

Postby itisgonnarunproperly » Fri Jun 06, 2014 11:17 am

Good to be back firstly :D My Li Special is now on road and being run it, slowly but surely at w/e's, I'm already thinking of building another engine, I have a Perfect 150 S3 1963 casing that I bought last month, has anyone had the conversion from a 150 to a 200 studding done, and how much did it cost? Is it worth the cost or should I focus on getting a small block conversion barrel etc?

The best 150 casings are the 200 casings that were machines to 150 size. These measure 95mm from top to bottom across the mouth. 150 castings are 90mm across (I think these dimensions are correct).

Using one of the 200 casting 150 casings means you get more gasket face to work with, but the same can be achieved on a standard 150 casing, but it required extra welding. Of course, the 150 casing can be used as is with a reduced gasket face if your intended barrel is relatively standard.

I like the look of Oiltec's work. I've seen the finished item at Wicksteed, and the video on You Tube, and it looks a quality solution. I have a 200 casting/150 casing already welded up but I can't decide whether to send it to Oiltec or my usual supplier, CS Engineering at Norwich.

I also have a Spanish 150 case that's been altered to take 200 barrel, its the case I run my cast 240 on. it was done about 20 years ago in Birmingham for a tenner :)
