I've thought about doing the same and possibly skimming the cylinder base to bring the timings down.

Hi Wack, i'm due a new pipe for my ts230 and have been thinking of the bgm clubman and goin from a 35 mikuni to 30 dellorto maybe, but i'm hoping i can just put on the clubman and rejet the carb etc so hopefully i'll get some feedback on this setup, Mph loss etc, last thing i want is to buy two exhausts. cheers Lammer205.

Hi, I've been running a bgm clubman on my ts 225 for the last two years now & I find it a nice torquey set up. Gearing is Indian gp 200 with 19x46 sprockets giving a 4.84 ratio, carb is 30mm del phbh running through a filter. It sits quite comfortably at 60/65 & tops out at about 70. OK I will agree its not the fastest set up but I like it & the fact it still looks standard. hope this helps al ;)

Lammer,

Have one on my TS230, Dellorto 34VHSB, standard Indian GP200 gears and drive. Engine built by Readspeed with a JL3 on. I swopped it for a BGM clubman when they came out a couple of years ago.
The difference was amazing, didn't re-jet carb or tweak the airscrew. Runs a little rich but the way it revs through the gears is so clean and in top it just wants to rev on. With the JL it felt restricted at high revs. Plug colour similar with both exhausts. Not overly noisy either.

One big thing, fitted with no messing at all, been on and off for post run checks a few times and always easy to get on. Only issue I had was it came loose on way back from Weston this year, at the flange, so quick swop of the gasket when I came home and no probs since, I'd re-used old nuts.

In fact just gone on MB website and ordered another for my No 2 scoot, which is also a Readspeed TS230 [ I know very boring I am]. That had the JL3 on this year off the first engine and doesn't pull half aswel,l although it is higher geared, 4:8 as opposed to 5:2 so we'll se how it goes, but the BGM suits the torque of my first engine so hoping the higher gearing is not too much.

Not many products I'd recommend without conditions attached but this is one. :D

5.22 with a BGM Clubman? I bet it does rev, :o even 4.8. I've always set up around 4.7, or with cylinder work 4.6, to utilize the torque characteristics of the pipe.

Just prior to Avignon a couple of years ago I put on a BGM clubman on my TS1 225 to replace a devtour. I was running a mikuni 35mm carb. The exhaust was very good and personally did not notice any drop in performance but didn't take any realistic measurements of speed etc. I didn't need to re jet although with the BGM it was running a tad rich. Overall a good exhaust apart from needing some welding done on my return. Not sure if it was the fault of the BGM because everything on my scooter has a habit of breaking or shaking to bits.

The other thing is the petrol consumption, because of the gearing/exhaust most of the time I can sit in 4th with it, even climbing decent hills. I don't find it screaming at all, just revving freely.
Going down to IoW this year with a mix of RBs and TS I was filling up the least to the point where one of the lads said your gonna hole your piston. So I popped the plug out when we stopped for breakfast and it was dry very dark brown/black. Getting 50+ to the gallon.
On the downside my stator gave up on the way home! :(
