Air filter options, sweet-breath style

Need help with a tuning kit, how do you tune your scooter, which kit should I choose, and all general tuning and modifcations questions are for in here.

Air filter options, sweet-breath style

Postby Knowledge » Fri Jan 06, 2017 1:53 pm

I want to fit a Sweet-breath style filter to my Dell'orto flatslide. The mouth is something like 65mm diameter.

Is there a supplier of a suitable elbow/bellows for such a carb?

I’ve had a good browse for such things personally, but the sizes we use are not what, say, the car tuning fraternity use with their lovely, compact ‘Cobra Head’ elbows used for inlets with intercoolers.

However, there are a number of silicone elbow adaptors intended for motoring applications that the Chinese make very affordable.

I'm not running a sweep-stake as to where to look, though

A picture paints & all that:

Thanks WT1,

I have looked at this solution previously, and I am not adverse to the silicon route, but the elbows are not a tight as I would prefer.

Let's see if there are any other solutions, or perhaps a photo of a completed installation using the silicon bend.

I’ve just responded to another Post of yours & my memory may be flawed (who am I again, Nurse?) but this Post & the head cowling makes me wonder if you hadn’t ought to get that ‘Moulding Head’ of yours back on rather than try & adapt things....

Only a keen, polite suggestion, mind you!

Don't know if this helps as it's on a Mikuni TMX 35 but this elbow was off Harry Barlow and I think LTH stocks them. The alloy tube and the Ram air filter are 62mm dia.

Knowledge,

I can't be dealing with uploading to a web host at the moment but I'm happy to email you a photo of the cobra head type connection hose, which WT1 mentions. I ordered mine from a car part supplier many years back and have no record of where from, sorry, but I did find one that is a tight but workable fit. I found I needed to notch a small section out of the bottom of said hose so that it fit my VHSA/B/H carbs without issue but if fitted well once on.

If you ping me your email, I'll forward the pic that I've just taken.

Adam

PS - I thought that the standard Breathe Sweet hose could be used on the flatslide Dellortos, is that not the case?

As I can offer up an image, Adam, I hope you don't mind :?: :

Not at all. I was going to try to get mine posted as it shows it next to my VHSH so that you can see the fact that they are available in appropriate sizes, however, your image serves the purpose of illustrating what they look like and size... well, you'll just have to take my word for it :)

For some reason I have been missing these replies. Loving your work Bike Grim.

The cobra head item looks ideal. Where can I get one from? (I might start a new thread....)
