Am I being daft

Postby Peterp » Wed Aug 27, 2025 12:40 pm

Hello,
You’re going to wonder where this character has emerged from, I’ve only just returned to scootering after many and become a member of LCGB.
What did happen to this engine???
Just bought a TV175, few bits that need attention but nothing major. However, the only thing that is bothering me is that I obviously took my eye off the ball when buying, looking closer I think there has been an engine change, and an older engine, possibly a series 2..
I now have this thing in my head that I need to bring it back and find an engine series 3 closer to the chassis number, is this really necessary.
Am I being silly and worrying unnecessarily, it runs like a dream, I really hope I am.

Welcome back Peter - funny how it never leaves you

It's bit of a difficult one, which ultimately only you can answer
I know, that the 'little man' can nag inside your head, and can end up cost you a lot of £££'s

Easy for me to say, but I'd just enjoy what you have it sounds perfect

Personally, I'd just enjoy it as it is.

There's too much obsessing about a 22/2 or gt200 etc when they're all fundamentally the same. Italian, indian, Spanish, Brazilian, they're just the same thing really.

But not a Lambretta pato; that's not the same.

Have you checked out the engine number? Is it a Series 2 TV175?

Series 3 TV 175 engines start “175TV/2”

Did you buy the scooter on the pretext it was a “matching” engine and frame? If so, and if you paid top price, I’d be going back to the advert and taking it up with the seller.

Good evening Dickie and Storkfoot,
The engine number starts with TV175/2, with a very low engine number starting with 1 (I think, I’m indoors typing this). And no, I was not mislead at all by claims of matching numbers, price was below 4k. Person I bought it off was a smashing fella from Liverpool, we keep in touch.
It’s just me being daft and yes it’s a niggle, I need to get over myself and stop this OTT puritan nonsense. It runs very well, I’m made up with it. If I knew how to post a pic I would do, just to show it off.
Anyway,
Thank you, appreciate the time taken to reply advise me,
Regards,
Pete

In answer to your question no it is not imperative that the engine number matches the frame number.
Nice if they do,but not important if they don't.In fact the engine number is so unimportant it doesn't need to be on the V5.So if you are happy with whatever engine you have carry on have fun.
