my LED indicator set up

Postby peejay » Tue Jun 02, 2015 1:17 pm

hi peeps
i've looked long and hard at what others have done, here's my version.

Image

GTS indicator switch

Image

front indicators

Image

rear indicators

Image

i've had to cut the angled part of the lug off and re-drill it

Image

at this stage i'm keeping hole drilling/welding to a minimum till i'm really happy with things.

stainless switch brackets.

Image

easy option for fitting front indicator is to simply drill a whacking great hole in the legshield and hide wires in toolbox, but i didn't want to do that!

stainless 2 piece clamp

Image

lamp bracket mild steel and mattblacked

Image

wires neatly out of the way

Image

having the luxury of a C to C stylee flyscreen i've fitted 2 warning lights but one is ok to comply with MoT

Image

i have the room to fit a spare flasher unit under the L/H panel, near the battery tray

Image

rear rack has additional 6mm bar welded on to protect the led flasher

Image

Image

Image

rear indicators are angled up slightly to be in the following driver's eye line, well that's my theory anyway!

well that's the basics of it, it's had a thorough shake down test on the recent Coast to Coast event and works really well :D

my special thanks to clubmate Dave "the doctor" Jones for all the specialist bracketry.

any questions just ask and i'll try to answer them but remember i'm not an auto electrian ;)

I actually like that, Ive often wondered about fitting something for fun rather than anything else but the switch is always the big issue for me, like how you've done that though.

One question, how do you cancel the indicators? ie i assume left for left, right for right, but does the button return to central then you push in to cancel or someother way?

hi Donnie, the beauty of the GTS switch is just press in to cancel no matter where it is, no faffing about to return it to centre position :)

I knew GTS's would prove useful for something eventually!

Hi nice job. Where did you get all the parts from, and what was the cost, as i am thinking of doing that set up myself.

hi stag
all indicators and flasher unit came from ebay, indicator switch from AJ Sutton.

front indicator - £6.00

Image

rear indicator - £16

flasher unit - £2 (make sure it's for LED lamps)

genuine Vespa turn indicator switch £11.20

hope this helps you :)

forgot to mention the warning light!

this is the first one i fitted:

Image

problem was that when switch was operated the lamp was dim and dimmer! what's the point of a DIM warning light?

so i cut it open to find this:

Image

no wonder it's dim, that green lense is 10mm thick!

i've now fitted a capless red led bulb in the housing

Image

Image

i've sealed the end with opaque plastic to make it waterproof.
