So, Franspeed Race or Supertourer for GT186 kit?

Need help with a tuning kit, how do you tune your scooter, which kit should I choose, and all general tuning and modifcations questions are for in here.

LOL, me defensive?

And no, i have no intention of using gps either :?

I simply said i was looking at the gearing options for my build (one aspect I've been trying to nail down) and that's not any different to many other engines that many others have built without the use of egt, cht, or tachos. You've simply made too many assumptions as well as talking about the "norm" for engine building which im not sure what you define as such?

I wasn't being defensive at all by the way but I think you took it as such and then rolled with it

Donnie.

One thing that I feel that I have avoided in this exchange of ours is to 'paint myself into a corner'

By that, I mean that I haven't discounted all of the options that there were for you in any engine build that, theoretically remain for me, should I choose to embark upon yet another.

In my comments upon your posts, I was diplomatic enough to offer up 'lifelines' to what you appeared to be set on.

I've yet to figure out how you will achieve your aim of matching a certain road speed to your desired engine speed without some method of assessing either accurately.

Thus far, you've dismissed a tachometer & GPS. Perhaps you have a chromometric speedometer, but I think the way our conversation progressed, you would have mentioned it by now.

If you don't mind, I'll bail out of this because I'm not able to help you, & I must apologise for thinking I could.

Good Luck.

I started with 16/47 on the GT200 kit but felt that the top end was a bit disappointing so changed to 17/46 which was a big improvement and the kit can pull that gearing comfortably.

With the 186 kit I haven't done any serious miles on yet so it's too early to say whether the gearing will work with the fran race, but early indications are that I may need to drop down to a 16 as I have found that I need to change down to 3rd more often than I'd like

Imo a gt 186 with standard crank will not pull 4.6 with a fran race or tourer.

My 30+bhp GT250 runs on 4.6!

You might pull 4.8 on a good day.

Mine's got the GT 60/110 crank, it does pull it but I find I have to drop down to 3rd if I want any acceleration below 55mph. Interesting that Li150 17/46 is the recommended gearing in the GT manual but this is with a clubman exhaust

It's may pull it with a box pipe on. But it depends on your definition of pulling the gearing. Mine is that it will pull it in all conditions not just in good conditions.
Your stoke is helping a lot too.

Cheers guys, I think I will carry on and try the 16/46 likely with the TSR evo pipe and see how I go from there

My standard crank GT200 kit with BMG clubman pulls that gearing with ease, only time I have to change down to 3rd is on a steep incline, but you're right Eden the 186 even with the longer stroke does struggle a little with the fran race which is why I'm considering a 16 front sprocket for next season but will do a few long runs over the next month or 2 now that it's got 500 miles on it

Donnie,
I have a GT186 running 16/47 on a 150 box and can confirm that the Scooter Help gearing calculator is spot on with my TTO Tacho and GPS speed readings.
My set up is 30mm PHBH open mouthed and using a PMTuning 25 Evo pipe with Varitronic. HP is 19.4 at 7500.
I ride a daily 50 mile round trip to work down fast A roads and the scoot is a joy to ride at 60 with plenty still left to overtake.
Don't know whether this helps?

Certainly does, that's an exhaust ive not come across before at all kind of looks like the TSR evo actually.

Hi donnie. The pm pipe is imo a peakier pipe than the tsr evo . I used to run a GT186 with a fran race but after running the TSR on a TS1 i think it would suit the GT kit pretty well . Maybe some one on here has tried this combo.

Quite possibly :)

For fast touring it is fine, if riding anywhere around 60 - 70 mph no issue and 4th will pull just fine, but if you're riding slower (normally in a group) at around 50 - 60 mph then I have to change down to 3rd more often than I'd like so will probably drop down to a 16 front sprocket

But as Eden says it does all depend on what you define as pulling the gearing, this will differ from one person to another as to what is acceptable I guess.
