Keihin 28mm fitting

Hi I have just fitted a keihin 28mm carb with MRB manifold which completely obscures the path of the petrol tap.....any suggestions?

Somebody posted a pic a while back of a little universal joint which allows you to route the tap around a carb. You also could loosen the tap and move it round a bit.

thanks, I don't think the rod would be long enough if you move it, also have my doubts even with another UJ....be interested to see the picture if anyone knows the link.

Sometimes the rod is fitted on the other side of the carburettor, but a flexible joint can be fashioned using reinforced fuel pipe (typically Griflex) which is clamped @ it's ends by worm drive clips or clamp bands.

MB sell a natty little U/J which is quite similar to the type sold in model shops for model boat prop shafts which I have also seen being used to good effect. That said, the fuel tap rods do come I different lengths I think, certainly I've have had one that was too short in the past.

The flexi joint sounds good although I have now tried it and routed the rod between the carb body and throttle cable....it just about reaches (original series 2 tap rod) but does not rotate to fully vertical although seems to stop fuel flow....just need to wait for the salty roads to clear to give it a try....thanks for the input everyone.

Get a different length rod and route it in front of the choke cable.

I have done it in the past with a guide bolted to the lower airbox fixing on the frame and 2 uj's ( 1 either side of the the guide ) so the tap rod goes to the frame along it and back out to the tap unfortunately I have no pictures

I have one fitted with my reed valved RT kit, yes it was a pain but as has been suggested already, the tap lever sits in front of the choke lever, resting almost on top of the carb itself, in fact you can't remove the carb without disconnecting the tap it runs straight across right through the middle of everything if you can see what I mean. I was worried it wouldn't work and everything was a bit of a tight fit but it does, no problems with several long distance rallies under its belt it's worth it. A brilliant set up with great performance, doesn't drink or spit fuel either, whether at 50 or well in excess of 70 mph unlike most of the guys i'm riding with or my other scoots running TMX's and Delly's.

Hi Potts, good feedback.reed valve is the next mod I have planned assuming I don't blow the engine to bits in Germany.
Just as a matter of interest what exhaust are you running with that set up
