Stand Spring Length

Postby Paul_from_Thornbury » Wed Apr 20, 2016 8:14 pm

Anyone know what the correct length of a stand Spring is, I've got two aftermarket ones which are slightly long as my stand droops and if I pull the stand up under the running boards with my heel the spring pops off.
From outside of loop to outside of loop mine are 110mm long.

Are you sure the two main Fixing bolts on your stand are not loose as this would cause the same issue as spring length ?

I don't know the correct length, sorry, the length can be different and it plays a major role.
I usually shop with a spring in my hand to compare.
These 3 springs are supposed to be from the same manufacturer.

What are the lengths of the longest and shortest springs in the photos?

I'm sure series 1/2 are not the same length as series 3. But I don't know which is longer. Personally I steer clear of the stainless ones rather have a bit of rust.

The rusty one I measured came off a rusty Spanish S2. Most dealers I use don't have different springs listed for S1/2 or 3. Scooter Restorations does have a slightly longer one listed for late Indian GPs

Measured two used.
Left one 106.5.right 105.2 from outside loop to outside loop.
I always keep the left one as a spare in the toolbox .

also depends on the correct welded position of the stand cross member & if your using an Indian stand as I've got some stainless steel ones where they're defo welded in wrong position grrrrrrrrr
