Fuel cap.

Hi all has anyone found a better fuel cap then the standard one?
Would love to stop the fuel leaking from the cap .

You could firstly replace the seal and then you could press down on the tangs to make the cap tighter. I don't think there is an alternative, short of getting a new one.

I think the scientific term for that is knackered. I don't know. You can only try another cap.

Just check the actual neck of the tank. I had a remade tank and could I stop the cap leaking? It wasn't the cap as it turned out. The actual neck had come loose and would move up and down with pressure.

I had the same couldn't fill it right up a no matter what I tried it wouldn't stop leaking

I'm having similar problems with a Diablo tank and a Camlam one. The caps (I've tried a few) need the tabs fettling just to allow the thing to turn an lock and then leak when full. I wish I'd tried the caps before fitting the tanks as it is the angle (or lack of) of the ramps in the neck that are the issue.

Everything said so far is unfortunately only to be expected. Age &/or quality take their toll.

I suppose you've tried a trick that I had work for me?

Fit two of the rubber cap seals or make a bespoke, thicker one?

I've got 2 standard tanks and 1 Oiltek, all with standard fuel caps and never had an issue with any of them, even when filled right to the brim

For sure, not everybody does have problems with tank caps. My own have been few, thankfully.

However, wherever the problem arises, those of us that have been less fortunate can only try & pitch in with suggestions that we hope will help.

Is it definitely leaking out the cap? It's not leaking out of a join between the tank and the filler neck is it?

For sure, not everybody does have problems with tank caps. My own have been few, thankfully.

However, wherever the problem arises, those of us that have been less fortunate can only try & pitch in with suggestions that we hope will help.

I guess what I was alluding to was that the fault is more likely to be the after market tank as opposed to the standard Lambretta fuel caps which the OP was suggesting was the problem, as I haven't had any issues with standard caps

I bought some fuel - that fitted inside the tank absolutely perfectly.

If any of us have bought stuff recently that has all been spot-on, they should be doing the Lottery!

I've bought plenty of stuff that has been spot on, like my Oiltek tank, but also plenty of stuff that hasn't!

surly if we all sent or took bits back that didn't fit or work as they should the suppliers would start supplying bits that were fit for purpose. But as we all seem to do ( I'm guilty of this) take bits and fettle them and accept this is how it is the poor quality will continue even from so called quality suppiers
