Ooops!

Ross(?)

I've just noticed your clip in the photo is going the wrong way. Although it is unlikely to come off, I would turn it around @ your earliest convenience.

The theory is that the clip is more likely to get pushed back on by anything untoward dragging against the chain, rather than pushed off.

You can see why racers used to carry five different chain lengths with them as even with just from 14 - 19 tooth front sprockets & 46 - 48 clutch rings you have to.

I did turn it round, thanks, just the only pic I could find of it.

Cheers, Ross

Just searched on here and got this post and wanted some advice.

The 'Lammy bible' says i need an 82 chain with a 19 / 46 sprocket set up.

Dilemma is i have just fitted an AF 46 rear cassette clutch with the 19 tooth sprocket but the 82 chain is proper baggy. I have tried other 82 link and 80 link chains in the garage but the 80 is too tight and the other 82's just as baggy. I think I might need an 81 link, has anyone experience of that set up ?

I could use a tensioner where the chain is pulled down but would prefer the conventional 'push up' green chain guide...

Anyone else had this and is there a remedy to keep the conventional 'push up' green chain guide you get as for me the pulling down of the chain makes no sense personally ??

I'm struggling to understand what you mean.................

some of those genuine iwis are just wrong i ,ve got an 80 link for 15/46 sprockets and the rear one is like your first picture, bought from a reputable dealer with hologram on box. it also has a cambridge lambretta sticker on it, but did not buy it from them.

I have this setup and I think I took a new 80T chain, Split it, and added a link n a half with a push up tensioner.

On the subject, ive bought a 16 tooth for a GP 150. I've read that a stretched regular chain should fit and as I think it's possibly 40 years old, does anyone think that it will be sufficiently stretched, or should I be going a half up?
I've got a modern plastic Tensioner.

Cheers

^... No way of knowing until you strip it to try, however, if it is the original chain then I would say 'probably, yes'.

Adam

PS - Personally, I hated my standard GP150 when I tried it with a 16 tooth front sprocket as it meant I had to thrash it everywhere and road conditions needed to be right, otherwise I was changing down to 3rd way too much. I hope that your set-up suits it more than mine did.

Thanks Adam. Food for thought. I have ported the cylinder and it goes really well compared to what it was. And when you take it to the full in 3rd, there is still a good increase in 4th gear.
So, I might leave well alone.
I've now also gone back to a jetex, which it likes better than the bigger PWK. But still prefers the Sterling to the Clubman exhaust , which I found odd, because when it was totally standard, fitting the sterling meant I didn't really have a 4th despite it liking a bigger carb.
When people say every scooter is different, they weren't joking!
