dual control / school master

Postby mickey c » Wed Sep 03, 2014 9:11 am

Hi all
my winter project is to restore a Li III school master i have in bits.

its taken me a while to get round to this as (being thick) i cant posssibly imagine how the dual controls work. The Series II on the cover of latest jetset has inspired me but I wonder if anyone on here (preferably in the North West) has one that i could come and look at please to try to work it all out?

any other advice or suggestions of where to find literature etc. would be greatly received.

No I can't say I know of any one in the north west with one, only one I've seen was owned by a lad in Devon who I bought my GP from in 98.
It was for sale but at the time I wasn't looking for an LI even if it had dual controls. Might think twice about that now.

Good luck with it.

There is one in the North Walsham M/C museum in Norfolk. I went and looked last year. I took lots of photos of the bikes and the LCGB scoots in there including that one but there's not a lot of detail.
Brilliant museum though.

There was one at the Blackpool Rally a couple of years ago so maybe there is one in the North West?

Think Mick Lloyd who used to be a very active LCGB member had one, sure there was an article in Jet set in the 90's or early 00's that had some good tech info etc regarding them.

Jet set no 75 mate ........... The one above in the Norfolk museum is the LCGB model Mick once owned I believe.

Maybe worth contacting Martin Robinson who looks like being the proud owner of the one on this months cover of Jet set issue no 191

i was going to ask Martin Robinson for a cheeky peek at his too, does anyoen know if he comes on here at all?
getting to norfolk might not be realistic for a while much as i would love to visit the museum.

I'd love to know how the cable works at the bottom end. I've never seen a photo of anything other than the handlebars.....

Like I say I can't imagine how 2 separate cables can operate 1 function! But I don't have a great imagination! :D
Should be a fun challenge!

The instructor didn't have any throttle control.
He (or she) could use the rear brake, clutch and a kill button.
This info can be found in Pete Davies brilliant book.

Some pics that I found.

Cheers Dimitrios for those pics. The paintwork on that one looks very similar to the one on the front cover of Jet Set,

Dimitrios - you are a star! when i am rumaging through the box of bits I know now what i am looking for, pretty clever and hopefully straightforward (ish).
Yuo've also given me a greta excuse to buy the lambretta Bible (or put on early Xmas list) as i have been after this for a while.
i know need ot have a proper look at it and start the internal debate of rustoration versus restoration, i'm pretty sure its goign to be the latter as think it needs lots and lots of work.
i'll stick some photos up of its current state.
any other tips for info still greatly recieved.
thanks everyone
Mike

To be honest I haven't received the latest Jetset yet.
The pictures found here
https://www.flickr.com/photos/13113540@ ... 466680883/

In Pete's Bible there are two nice big photos of a Li 125 S3 model and another two from series 2.
One of them features this Lambretta from a different angle.

I was trying to figure out the chukka boots that the instructor was wearing and wasn't paying much attention on the Lambretta

I prefer the young Mrs Merton's loafer white sock combo!
On the forthcoming project, the scooter has a "schoolmaster" badge in lambretta badge styling on the legshield: replacing won't be possible but I'm such a clutz I'll snap it.
Who is good at getting legshield badges off in 1 piece?

I'm curious what the electrical connector is on what looks to be the outermost gear cable in the pics, neutral light?

Looks just like a bit of terminal block, probably just to stop the cable fraying.
